Like a sunflower

Have you ever noticed how a plant will turn its leaves to face the sun? Some plants even close up shop at night and open up just for the sun. It is a partly cloudy day here in Colorado and while the kids and I were at the park I looked up and realised that even big trees to that. Their branches all reach upward towards the sky and even seem to be begging for the sunlight. This might not be a big leap, but which way are your branches facing?

Hebrews 12:2 tells us, " looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross..." Jesus is the SON light that we can turn to in order to stay alive. Sometimes I find the wind blowing and it would be easy to turn with the light breeze, but when the storm is fierce it is especially hard to keep your eyes on the goal! The best solution to the 'wind' problem is to develop roots. Become rooted in the Word, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth". 2 Tim 2:15. By becoming intimately acquainted with the Word of God, you can stand strong against any wind!

A wonderful woman suggested that we check on others spiritual health by asking them, "How is your prayer/study life? Are you feeding yourself by the Word?" and I thought to myself, I need to ask myself that first! First we need to check our pulse and see if we are alive and well, or close to flat lining. If it is looking pretty pathetic, do not fear! Open your Bible and get to getting better! Invite a friend or family member to compare notes, do a study with you, or just schedule and appointment time with yourself! All you need is a Bible, and a few moments of quiet time. Nobody (except Jesus) is perfect, so do the best you can, then challenge yourself to more and more!

My prayer today is that when our Heavenly Father looks down at us he can be proud of His garden of faithful children all with their faces bathed in SON light.
